Pick 6 Blog

Warming-up…

Let’s take an early look at the opening day Pick 6 from Del Mar. I will be back tomorrow with comprehensive analysis and tickets.
The opening leg (race 5) features a full field of 12 with a pair of also-eligibles. Exceeding is a multiple local winner and figures to take action.
The 2nd leg is a 9-horse claiming sprint. 8-time winner Make Mine Vodka cuts back in distance following a layoff, and he has run fresh in the past.
Optional claimers go a mile in the 7th. Brushburn was 3rd behind Oceanside contender Meteore last time.
The $100k Oceanside is the 8th and feature race on the card. Stalkers and closers performed well at this flat mile turf distance last year, and post 8 and beyond won more than expected. Note that Gary Stevens makes his training debut in this spot with late runner Lesson In Deceit. Mark S The Cooler is 2-2 at this distance on the weeds. Meteore has won two straight and is on the upswing for Mandella. Rendezvous had his form darkened on conventional dirt in 2 of his last 3 starts. He handles turf and will be finishing under Rosario.
Back to a claiming sprint in the 9th, and we wrap up the card with a maiden claiming route.
